Tool use
Written by Minh Khang

What is Tool use?
Tool use (function calling) is AI calling an outside function, such as checking stock, pricing delivery or creating an order, instead of only writing text.
Whoever builds the system tells the AI which tools exist and what each one needs. When needed, the AI picks a tool and fills in the details; your software actually runs it and hands the result back. Also called function calling.
Tool use in a shop
The AI does not know the delivery fee. It calls the fee tool with the customer's address, gets a real number back, then answers.
